About the United Nations
The United Nations (UN) is an international organization founded in 1945. The mission and work of the UN are guided by protecting human rights and taking on issues confronting humanity in the 21st century. The UN tackles issues including, but not limited to peace and security, climate change, sustainable development, human rights, disarmament, terrorism, humanitarian and health emergencies, gender equality, governance, food production, and more.
The UN also serves as a forum for its 193 member states to engage in dialogue, host negotiations, and work together to solve global problems.
The main organs of the UN are the General Assembly, the Security Council, the Economic and Social Council, the Trusteeship Council, the International Court of Justice, and the UN Secretariat.
The UN's Chief Administrative Officer is the Secretary-General.
